Hot Inshore Action, Steady Offshore Bite & Scalloping Fun in Crystal River
Crystal River - Citrus, FL
Summer is in full swing here in Crystal River, and the fishing has been solid across the board. The inshore bite is heating up with plenty of action for anglers targeting redfish and snook. Early mornings around the mangrove points and creek mouths have produced steady catches, especially on live pinfish and soft plastics. Sight fishing has also been productive on the grass flats during the mid-morning tide — keep your casts low and accurate for the best chances.
Trout are holding on the deeper grass beds and responding well to popping cork rigs paired with shrimp or gulp baits. Look for moving water and keep an eye out for bait activity. A few bigger gator trout have been mixed in, especially on the higher tides. Black drum and mangrove snapper are also showing up around structure, docks, and oyster bars — perfect targets for light tackle fun.
Offshore, when the weather allows, the snapper bite has been picking up on the nearshore reefs. Mangroves and lane snapper are taking cut bait and live shrimp, and there have been reports of cobia cruising the markers and rock piles, so keep a pitch rod ready. Scallop season is also drawing attention with great conditions for families looking to get in the water and cool off.
Whether you're fishing the backcountry or headed offshore, Crystal River is delivering great opportunities for anglers of all ages. Tight lines!
